Kathleen Edwards "Asking For Flowers" vs. Arcade Fire "The Suburbs"

Listened to each of these 5 times or so in the last week. Arcade Fire wins; the proof is left as an exercise for the reader.

  1. Having done said exercise, I agree. Asking for Flowers is plenty solid, but The Suburbs is plenty solider. Still, I'd like to hear some ruminations or reflections on how your listening affected other activities engaged in while listening or how Noe feels about each album.

  2. I did most of my listening on tinny laptop speakers in a hotel room in Palo Alto. That might have affected my choice; the Kathleen Edwards really struggles in that kind of setup. Back at the ranch, I found KE more enticing. A minor thing that still counted against the album: The production seemed a little uneven. Not bad, just irregular. As a result I think the album felt more like a collection of songs.

  3. Maybe you should have looked for some KE hockey videos (said a guy who likes to carry a grudge).
